Alabama Gives Day
Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What is Alabama Gives Day?
Alabama Gives Day is a one-day virtual fundraiser on February 2nd, 2012 that encourages the citizens of Alabama to contribute to participating nonprofit organizations through a single online giving platform during a 24 hour period. The campaign is coordinated by the Alabama Association of Nonprofits, the Alabama Broadcasters Association, Razoo Foundation, Intermark Group, Alabama Giving, community and private foundations, the Alabama Press Association, and participating nonprofit organizations.
What is ALgives.org?
ALgives.org and the Nonprofits Matter awareness campaign aims to transform philanthropy in Alabama by growing overall giving and to promote the ease and safety of online giving. ALgives.org is a program of the Alabama Association of Nonprofits and is powered by the amazing Razoo online giving platform in support of nonprofit organizations in the State of Alabama.
Through its engaging web platform launched in January 2012, ALgives.org helps nonprofit organizations of all sizes reach new donors, increases giving through fun and engaging campaigns, and significantly reduces overall fundraising costs.
ALgives.org helps individuals find, learn about, and contribute to Alabama and national programs, facilitates quick and easy online donations by credit card, and organizes online charitable contributions in one location.
What's the goal?
The vision of Alabama Gives Day is to showcase the collective work of Alabama's incredible and diverse nonprofit sector while providing a community platform that allows them to individually showcase their incredible missions, the impact they make, and to help connect new donors to further advance the work they do that improves the overall quality of life for all Alabamians.
How does it work?
Consumers select the nonprofit they wish to contribute to. The Razoo Foundation, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization which permits donors to advise a re-granting of their donations to other IRS recognized qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations, will accept the gifts pursuant to an arrangement with the Alabama Association of Nonprofits and will then re-grant the monies to the nonprofits selected by the donors. It is Razoo Foundation's normal practice to re-grant 97.1% of its contribution to the qualifying organization as advised by the donor, retaining 2.9% for Razoo Foundation's expenses (including credit card transaction costs). The Alabama Association of Nonprofits, per an agreement with participating nonprofits, will retain an additional 4% (6.9% total) of contributions received during the 24 hour event to help cover all related event costs of conducting this massive statewide event on their behalf. However 100% of your donation is credited to the donor as a charitable contribution because it is made to the Razoo Foundation donor advised fund.
How much of the donation will go to the nonprofit?
Alabama Gives Day and algives.org passes on the cost of credit card transaction fees to the nonprofit organizations. This low, flat rate of 2.9% is subtracted from the nonprofit's check. In addition, the participating nonprofits have agreed as part of their participation in Alabama Gives Day to have an additional 4% withheld from contributions to help the Alabama Association of Nonprofits pay for incurred expenses of conducting this massive statewide event on their behalf.
Is there a minimum donation?
The minimum donation on ALgives.org is $10.
Is there a maximum donation?
There is no maximum donation limit on ALgives.org
Is there a limit to the amount an organization
can receive on Alabama Gives Day?
