Alabama 4-H is the state’s largest youth education organization, reaching more than 84,000 youth between the ages of 9 and 18.

4-H teaches leadership, citizenship and positive character development, and provides programs, competitions, events and activities for youth in rural and urban settings through in-school programs, community clubs and special interest groups.

Alabama has nearly 1,700 clubs offering programs and activities in all 67 Alabama counties. More than 2,800 trained adult volunteers, guided by Agents of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, ensure youth have positive adult influences.

A Tufts University national study started in 2002 proves that 4-H'ers excel beyond their peers, make healthier lifestyle choices, have higher educational achievement, are more motivated for future education and are committed to improving their communities.

    I am in my current position partially due to 4-H. The experience taught me to be confident speaking to groups and this has served me well all of my life. I was active in Junior Leadership and many dairy foods demonstrations. 4-H allowed me to go places I would not have gone otherwise, including my first trip to Chicago. 4-H can change lives. I am living proof.
