ALABAMA WRITERS FORUM INC
The Alabama Writers’ Forum, organizes writers, educators, &others interested in the literary arts in Alabama.THANKS TO ONE & ALL FOR TODAY!!
The Alabama Writers’ Forum supports literary arts programs in Alabama. Writers who hail from our state are well known. Harper Lee, Winston Groom, Sonia Sanchez, and many others have placed Alabama firmly on the world’s literary map. The AWF keeps the literary community connected through its programs and services.
We encourage young writers to explore creative writing as an arts discipline as well as a career path. The annual High School Literary Arts Awards recognizes students and their teachers for writing excellence and promise.
We promote cultural tourism through our support of literary festivals and gatherings large and small. The annual Alabama Book Festival, held each spring in Montgomery's Old Alabama Town, is the state's premier literary gathering, attracting 4,000 people for a day of readings, book browsing, and family fun.
Writing Our Stories, a creative writing program for adjudicated youth, takes place year-round at the Alabama Department of Youth Services in four school settings. Young writers works are debuted in anthologies published each year as the culmination of this thriving juvenile justice and the literary arts partnership. A portion of donations will be used to help restock the DYS Chalkville Campus's school library that was destroyed in the Jan. 23 tornado.
Writers, publishers, teachers, and others can gain information and news and share ideas through the Forum’s interactive web site: www.writersforum.org. Members of the Forum and donors receive our digital newsletter and frequent updates about literary events and services in our state and beyond.
