Our vision is of a transformed Black Belt where all residents contribute to healthy communities by taking what we have to make what we need.

The Black Belt Community Foundation’s MISSION is to forge a collective stream of giving - transforming our twelve-county region and connecting those interested in having an impact in our area with the nonprofits that are making a difference today.

Founded in 2005 with the idea that those living and working in the Black Belt best knew the area’s challenges and opportunities, the Black Belt Community Foundation actively puts needed resources into the region to make a lasting impact. The foundation operates in three main areas:

Giving – BBCF awards community-program and arts grants to over 100 nonprofits in the region each year.

Receiving - BBCF is actively working to raise the profile of philanthropy in the region, encouraging gifts from individuals of all sizes from across the state and around the world.

Growing – BBCF offers leadership training, organizational capacity building, and community collaboration to grow the skills needed to transform our communities.

Our VISION is of a transformed Black Belt where all of our residents contribute to healthy communities and reap the benefits of our shared gifts and a productive regional economy.

Alabama 's Black Belt stretches across the middle of the state from Mississippi almost to the Georgia line. Rich in human, religious, geographic and political diversity, the Black Belt got its name from the region's rich, dark soil. It is also home to the highest percentage of African Americans in Alabama.

Into this setting comes the Black Belt Community Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supporting community efforts that contribute to the strength, innovation and success of the region.

WE NEED YOU - The Foundation serves as a partner in philanthropy, making it possible for individuals, families and organizations to give back to the community in many ways. For example creating a personal fund, participating in a professionally managed fund, sponsoring a student at Black Belt 100 Lenses Summer Camp, serving as a Community Associate, and in many other ways.

Our principles are honesty, diversity and courage in the stewardship of charitable resources. We value the strengths of pluralistic communities where economic, racial and social justice are practiced in a spirit of trust and sincerity.

We value relationships and connections that protect and perpetuate these values.

Please join with us in “taking what we have to make what we need.”

The BBCF is a great organization that has been a blessing to our area. May they continue to grow and give and grow. And may those that benefit from the Foundation be compelled to give to the Foundation so that others may be helped.

The BBCF is making a positive impact in the counties of the Alabama black belt, especially in the lives of its youth. I only wish that such an organization existed when I was growing up!

BBCF is one of the most progressive, inovative organizations I know. I love the fact that it encourages people in the Black Belt of Alabama to "take what we have to make what we need". Because of the BBCF youth from Macon County were able to visit the nation's capitol in 2011! I can't say enough about BBCF!
