  • Land restoration is an ongoing project for the upkeep, enhancement, and overall beautification of the the KDS campus.

The Kate Duncan Smith DAR School is a privately owned and operated school located atop Gunter Mountain in Grant, Alabama. KDS is a unique learning institution in that specific elements of the school setting are operated as a public school under a joint cooperation with the Marshall County Alabama Board of Education. The county provides teachers and curriculum, and the DAR provides the land, buildings, the patriotic environment and extras such as college scholarships, work-study program, a full-time school nurse, the elementary art and music programs, funds for families in need, and funds for student health needs, just to name a few.
KDS is much more than just a school for mountain boys and girls. The rich cultural heritage and patriotic climate associated with this unique learning institution is woven and ingrained into the hearts of its students and graduates and has become the major force in the development of the local population educationally, economically, socially, physically, and spiritually.
