LAKESHORE FOUNDATION
Adaptive sport, fitness, recreation, and research for people with physical disabilities, including injured military and athletes.
For more than three decades, Lakeshore Foundation has had the privilege of serving individuals of all ages with physically disabling conditions. Our goal is to help each person find his or her personal path to active, healthy living through adaptive sport, recreation and fitness. And for all of us here at Lakeshore, we never stop being grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in a person's life.
We are grateful for the fact that we can do this work in a 126,000 square foot facility that includes an aquatics center, fitness center, and indoor track with three courts. We are also grateful to know that we have a caring, giving staff that is expertly trained in adaptive fitness, sport and recreation.
So much has been said about the impact of physical activity on a person's health, both physically and psychologically, in adding to their quality of life. We know first-hand that for a person with a physical disability, it is even more important. Whether it is a child born with spina bifida, a person paralyzed from an accident, or an individual with a chronic health condition such as multiple sclerosis, we are here to encourage our members to stay healthy through physical activity.
It may be that they choose to joing a wheelchair sports team, or enjoy one of the many aquatic classes, or work out in our adaptive fitness area. Or, they may see the possibilities of "going for the gold" by training to become a Paralympian. We are grateful that Lakeshore is a place of possibilities - where Lakeshore Foundation staff work alongside each child, teen and adult to be sure their commitment to health and well-being remains strong. In addition, we have programs specifically designed for our injured service men and women and thier families, as the Iraq-Afghanistan signature wounds are traumatic brain injury and amputations due to incidents caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Our six military camps include such activities as adaptive water skiing, shooting, kayaking, swimming and team sports. Again, we find ourselves grateful for the opportunity to serve those who have given so very much to protect us.
It is with gratitude that we ask you to consider a gift to Lakeshore Foundation.
