RED MOUNTAIN PARK FUND
Red Mountain Park is an exciting, new recreational mega-park development overlooking Birmingham at the site of the city's original mines.
Located off West Lakeshore Parkway just 15 minutes from downtown Birmingham, Red Mountain Park is a mountaintop park that will provide a variety of recreational opportunities at the site of the city’s first iron ore mines. Long dormant after the closing of the last of its mines during the late 1960s, the master plan for Red Mountain Park presents an ambitious vision for developing one of the most exciting and historically significant new park projects in America.
Currently, Red Mountain Park has over 10 miles of foot trails, built by our volunteers, accessible to the public. This is only a small portion of what is planned for the 1200-acre park. Ultimately, as funds are secured, it will include more than 30 miles of ADA handicap accessible trails -- as well as such unique outdoor elements as a dirt bike park, zip lines and toboggan rides. Beyond the abundance of recreational opportunities, the park will also include options to explore the natural and cultural history of Red Mountain. A variety of overlooks and unique landscape features, as well as a large number of historic mining structures will be an important part of the visitor experience as well.
Visit our website to learn more about the multi-year plans for developing Red Mountain Park and the many ways we envision it will become one of the greatest assets for our state and greater Birmingham community.
