Clay-Chalkville High School Class of 2002 is celebrating our 10 year reunion, and with that we'd like to offer help to our fellow classmates and family members that have been affected by the recent storms of January 23rd. At last count, over 150 homes were destroyed or nearly destroyed, and another 150 suffered moderate damage. The areas hit hardest were homes in the Paradise Valley, Georgebrook, Steeplechase and Twin Lakes developments and homes on Pine and Cherry streets and Rogers Drive. (http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2012/01/updated_clay_damage_totals_170.html)

The goal is that each person from the graduating class (there's over 200 of us!!) get 5 people to give $10 donations, as well as reach out to the community and local businesses for donations. All money we raise will go to Habitat for Humanity to DIRECTLY serve the Clay-Chalkville community in the rebuilding efforts in the months to come and bring hope back to the area.

Habitat Birmingham began disaster recovery on April 28th, and continues to repair and rebuild homes for families and individuals who suffered loss in the storms. While recovery was still underway in the area, another tornado tore through the city on January 23, 2012. Habitat is accepting applications from those in need following the latest storm.Habitat Birmingham is committed to continuing buidling new homes, repairing existing homes and helping stabilize communities by purchasing and rehabilitating foreclosed homes in the community.

***133 families benefitted from Habitat's various construction programs in 2011. 37 of these families were impacted by the storms. Let's see how many we can serve in 2012, in the Clay Community!!

Sorry...It looks like a few people made donations this morning. I hope that doesn't mess anything up and that the donations will still go to our fundraiser.
